PM Modi Attends Arabian Gulf Cup Opening Ceremony

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday joined the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Kuwait to witness the grand opening ceremony of the 26th Arabian Gulf Cup as the chief guest. The inaugural event was held at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium in Kuwait City. Prime Minister Modi is on a two-day visit to the Gulf nation, the first visit by any Indian Prime Minister in 43 years.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in informal talks with Kuwaiti leaders during the inauguration of the Arabian Gulf Cup, as reported by the External Affairs Ministry. 

Earlier, while addressing a significant gathering of the Indian community at the ‘Hala Modi’ event in Kuwait, he commended the contributions of the diaspora to global progress. Speaking at the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Indoor Sports Complex, he remarked, “India has the potential to become the skills capital of the world.”

Each year, numerous Indians arrive in Kuwait, contributing significantly to the local culture. You have infused Kuwaiti society with an Indian essence, enriching the landscape of Kuwait with the vibrancy of Indian expertise. The blend of India’s talent, technology, and traditions has found a place in Kuwait, as noted by Modi. 

He commended the diverse Indian community in the Gulf nation, referring to it as a ‘mini-Hindustan’

The Prime Minister posted a photograph alongside Kuwait’s Emir, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, at the inaugural ceremony of the Arabian Gulf Cup. 

In a message on X, he expressed, “It was a pleasure to meet His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah, during the opening ceremony of the Arabian Gulf Cup.”

Kuwait is the host of the biennial Arabian Gulf Cup, which includes eight teams from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations, as well as Iraq and Yemen. The opening match of the tournament will see the host nation face off against Oman.

This football tournament is regarded as one of the most esteemed sporting events in the region. Kuwait boasts the highest number of victories among all the competing nations.
