Thiruvananthapuram, April 27, 2025: Security forces launched an intensive search operation at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport on Sunday after the airport authorities received a bomb threat via email, according to news agency ANI. Bomb disposal squads and security personnel immediately began thorough inspections across all terminals following the alert.
The airport’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) confirmed that precautionary measures were being taken and searches were ongoing to ensure passenger safety.
This incident follows a series of similar email threats sent on Saturday to several hotels across the Kerala capital. Bomb disposal units and dog squads conducted meticulous searches at prominent hotels, including the Hilton Hotel in central Thiruvananthapuram. Fortunately, no explosives were found, and the threats were later declared hoaxes by the police.
An officer from the Cantonment Police Station said,
“While the nature of these messages is concerning, inspections at all locations have yielded no suspicious materials. Investigations are underway to trace the origin of the threat emails.”
A Rising Pattern of Hoax Threats in Kerala
Over the past few months, Kerala has witnessed a concerning trend of email threats targeting high-profile locations. District collectorates, Revenue Divisional Offices, and even the Kerala High Court have been subjected to bomb scare emails. In each case, thorough searches were conducted, and authorities found no credible threats.
Police officials have categorized all recent threats as hoaxes, but investigations remain active to identify the individuals responsible.
Public Urged to Stay Calm
In response to the latest threat, security has been tightened across Thiruvananthapuram, and officials have implemented enhanced screening measures at key public locations. Authorities are appealing to the public to remain calm and cooperate with ongoing security checks.
“We are taking every threat seriously while urging citizens to not panic. Vigilance is high, and additional security deployments are in place,” said a senior police official.
The repeated wave of hoax threats has placed considerable strain on security agencies, but officials emphasize that swift responses are necessary to ensure public safety, regardless of the threat’s authenticity.
Investigations are ongoing, and more updates are expected as authorities trace the origins of the emails.
