SBI Customers Alert: Online IMPS Transactions to Attract Charges

State Bank of India Update: State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest public sector bank, has revised certain customer transaction charges. If you are an SBI account holder, this update is important for you, as it may impact your regular banking transactions.

SBI has announced that service charges will now be applicable on online IMPS (Immediate Payment Service) transactions above a specific limit. This change is expected to affect customers who frequently make high-value digital transfers. However, low-value online transfers will continue to remain free.

SBI New IMPS Charges – What Has Changed?

Earlier, SBI did not levy any charges on online IMPS transfers. Under the revised rules, customers will have to pay a service fee when transferring amounts exceeding ₹25,000 through IMPS. The charges will vary depending on the transaction amount.

In simple terms, higher IMPS transfer amounts will attract higher charges. That said, the fee structure remains relatively nominal.

These new IMPS charges will come into effect from February 15, 2026. Transactions up to ₹25,000 made via internet banking, mobile banking, or the YONO app will continue to be free of cost. Charges will apply only when the transfer amount crosses this limit.

Who Will Be Exempt from These Charges?

SBI has clarified that there is no change in IMPS charges for transactions carried out through bank branches, where fees will continue to range from ₹2 to ₹20 plus GST.

In addition, certain special account categories will remain exempt from the revised IMPS charges. These include:

SBI Increase in ATM and ADWM Charges

Apart from IMPS transactions, SBI has also revised its ATM and ADWM charges, which will be applicable from December 1, 2025.

Under the updated structure:

However, Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) accounts, SBI debit card holders, and Kisan Credit Card (KCC) accounts will remain exempt from these increased ATM charges.

Conclusion

SBI’s latest revision in IMPS, ATM, and ADWM charges reflects the bank’s effort to balance digital convenience with operational costs. While everyday customers making small online transfers up to ₹25,000 will not be affected, those using IMPS for higher-value transactions will now need to pay a nominal service charge. At the same time, SBI has ensured relief for select account categories by continuing exemptions and maintaining free limits for salary and basic savings account holders. Overall, the changes are moderate and are unlikely to burden regular users, but customers are advised to stay informed and plan high-value transactions accordingly to avoid additional charges.
