Karnataka Bank Q1 FY27 Results: Net Profit Surges 44%, Asset Quality Improves with Lower NPAs

New Delhi: Karnataka Bank Ltd. reported a strong performance for the first quarter of FY27, driven by healthy growth in profit and revenue, along with further improvement in asset quality. The private sector lender continued to strengthen its balance sheet as both gross and net non-performing assets (NPAs) declined on a sequential basis.

The latest quarterly numbers reflect the bank’s focus on improving profitability, maintaining credit discipline, and expanding its lending business amid a stable banking environment.

Karnataka Bank Q1 FY27 Financial Highlights

Karnataka Bank posted a standalone net profit of ₹4.19 billion (₹419 crore) for Q1 FY27, compared with ₹2.90 billion (₹290 crore) in the corresponding quarter last year. This marks an impressive 44.5% year-on-year growth, supported by higher interest income and improved operational efficiency.

The bank’s total revenue increased to ₹23.83 billion (₹2,383 crore) from ₹22.60 billion (₹2,260 crore) a year ago, registering a 5.4% year-on-year growth.

Asset Quality Continues to Improve

A major positive from the quarterly results was the continued improvement in asset quality.

– Gross NPA (GNPA) declined to 2.58% from 2.78% in the previous quarter.

– Net NPA (NNPA) improved to 0.87%, compared with 0.98% in the March quarter.

The reduction in both gross and net NPAs indicates better recovery efforts, lower fresh slippages, and prudent credit underwriting. Strong asset quality is expected to support future profitability by reducing provisioning requirements.

Profit Growth Reflects Strong Banking Operations

The sharp rise in net profit highlights Karnataka Bank’s improving operating performance. Growth in advances, stable deposit mobilisation, and disciplined cost management contributed to the stronger earnings during the quarter.

The bank has also continued investing in digital banking initiatives, customer acquisition, and technology upgrades to improve service quality and operational efficiency.

Karnataka bank Outlook for FY27

Looking ahead, Karnataka Bank is expected to focus on expanding its retail, MSME, and corporate lending portfolio while maintaining healthy asset quality.

Key factors that investors will monitor in the coming quarters include:

– Loan and deposit growth.

– Net Interest Margin (NIM) performance.

– Credit cost and provisioning trends.

– Further improvement in GNPA and NNPA.

– Growth in digital banking and fee income.

With India’s banking sector benefiting from steady credit demand and improving economic activity, Karnataka Bank remains well-positioned to strengthen its earnings trajectory.

Conclusion

Karnataka Bank delivered a strong start to FY27, with net profit rising nearly 45% year-on-year and revenue posting steady growth. The continued decline in both Gross NPA and Net NPA reflects the bank’s improving asset quality and prudent risk management.

If the bank sustains loan growth while maintaining low credit costs, it is likely to remain on a stable growth path throughout FY27.
