In a tragic road accident in southern Ethiopia, 66 people lost their lives when a bus and a car collided and plunged into a canal. The incident occurred in Bona Zuria Ward, Sidama state, approximately 300 kilometers from the capital, Addis Ababa.
Rescue workers raced to the scene, managing to save four injured passengers who were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, by the time rescuers arrived, 66 individuals had already succumbed to their injuries.
The Sidama Regional Hospital Bureau confirmed the incident through a social media statement, noting that efforts are ongoing to recover the victims from the canal.
Ethiopia, Africa’s second-most populous country, frequently grapples with high rates of road accidents, often attributed to poor infrastructure, overloading, and lack of strict traffic regulations.
