A massive fire broke out near Gate Number 9 of the BHEL campus in Bhopal on April 23, 2025, causing widespread panic in the area. The fire reportedly started in waste materials stored within the premises and quickly spread, leading to explosions in oil tanks nearby.

According to officials, the blaze erupted in a waste dump area, approximately 200 meters from Gate No. 9. The fire was so intense that flames reached up to 20 feet high, and thick black smoke was visible up to 12 kilometers away. The cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed, but authorities suspect a spark in waste materials might have triggered it.
Thousands of Trees and Plants Burnt
The fire caused extensive environmental damage, with thousands of trees and plants completely destroyed. Although the main factory building is located at a distance from the fire site, panic spread among BHEL employees and nearby residents.
Emergency Response: Fire Brigade and CISF in Action
As soon as the fire was reported, multiple fire brigade units and the CISF team reached the site to bring the situation under control. The District Collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh and Govindpura SDM Ravish Srivastava also arrived at the scene to oversee relief operations.
“Efforts are underway to completely douse the flames. No injuries have been reported so far. The exact cause of the fire will be investigated,” said Collector Singh.
Safety Measures and Investigation Underway
The BHEL administration has restricted entry into the affected area for safety reasons. Officials are currently assessing the damage and have initiated an internal probe to find out what led to the incident. The local police are also conducting an investigation.
