UPI Down Today: Paytm, PhonePe, Google Pay Face Major Outage Across India — Users Report Transaction Failures

New Delhi, April 12, 2025 — Users across India faced a major disruption in UPI services today as leading digital payment platforms like Paytm, PhonePe, and Google Pay experienced outages. The technical glitch has affected both personal and commercial financial transactions, sparking concern among millions who rely on UPI for everyday payments.

UPI Not Working: Nationwide Impact

The issue was first reported on Saturday morning, when users began facing failed transactions and server errors while trying to make payments through UPI-based apps. According to DownDetector, over 1,100+ complaints were logged by noon:

Google Pay: 96 reported issues
Paytm: 23 user complaints
PhonePe: Multiple outage reports across regions

Leading banks such as HDFC Bank, SBI (State Bank of India), and Kotak Mahindra Bank also appeared to be indirectly impacted by the disruption.

What Caused the UPI Outage?

As of now, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has not officially disclosed the cause behind the technical breakdown. This marks yet another incident in a string of UPI outages, with a similar issue reported on March 26, where users were locked out of the system for nearly three hours.
