Border on High Alert : In light of escalating tensions along the Line of Control (LoC), National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday morning to provide a comprehensive update on the current border situation, particularly developments following India’s strategic Operation Sindoor. The one-on-one meeting lasted nearly an hour at the Prime Minister’s official residence, according to government sources.
Shortly after, the Union Home Secretary also held discussions with PM Modi, reinforcing the seriousness of the national security situation.
The high-level meetings come in the aftermath of intense cross-border shelling by Pakistan that claimed the lives of 13 civilians, with 59 others injured—most of them from Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district. These casualties occurred due to a series of ceasefire violations in the region.
In response, Indian security forces have ramped up deployment and vigilance across western states, including Rajasthan. Several precautionary measures have been enforced—government employees’ leave has been suspended, schools have been temporarily closed, and airspace over multiple western cities remains restricted until May 10.
Defence readiness has also been significantly enhanced. A robust, multi-layered air defence system is now fully operational. The Indian Navy has deployed key warships in the Arabian Sea, while frontline infantry divisions along the border remain on high alert.
Meanwhile, an all-party meeting was convened at 11 a.m. to brief opposition leaders about the recent military action. Government representatives detailed the objectives and execution of Operation Sindoor—a precision strike targeting nine major terror hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). These included key sites operated by Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, particularly in Muridke and Bahawalpur.
Between 1:05 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, India launched 24 missiles as part of a coordinated, tri-services military operation. According to defence officials, the offensive lasted just 25 minutes but inflicted substantial damage on terrorist infrastructure.
The Indian government stressed that the operation was a carefully calibrated response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, including a Nepali national. Officials were quick to clarify that no Pakistani military installations were hit and that the action was intended to avoid escalation.
“This was a focused and proportionate countermeasure. We have exercised restraint while ensuring our response was precise and effective,” said a government statement.
Opposition leaders were also assured of India’s preparedness to handle any potential counteractions and were informed of contingency strategies in place to protect national security interests.
