In a major relief for Delhi’s trading community, the Rekha Gupta-led Delhi government has announced plans to launch a one-time GST amnesty scheme aimed at resolving long-pending disputes under the Goods and Services Tax (GST). The initiative comes in response to growing dissatisfaction among traders who have long voiced concerns over the complexities and repeated compliance burdens of the GST framework.
One-Time GST Waiver Scheme to Ease Trader Concerns
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta made the announcement during a recent public event, acknowledging that the government has received numerous complaints from traders regarding difficulties in navigating the GST regime. She emphasized that the government is committed to supporting the business community and will implement a one-time waiver scheme to resolve historical GST cases.
“There have been major complaints from traders regarding GST, and the government is determined to find a suitable solution. Our first step will be the launch of a one-time GST waiver scheme to address old cases,” said CM Gupta.
The scheme will provide a clean slate to traders with long-standing GST disputes, allowing them to settle pending cases and resume operations under a simplified and updated tax framework. This move is expected to ease compliance and help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) refocus on business growth.
New Industrial Policy and Single Window System
To further enhance the ease of doing business, CM Gupta announced the introduction of a new industrial policy aimed at boosting employment and encouraging entrepreneurship in the capital. A major highlight of this policy is the proposed single window clearance system, which will streamline all regulatory approvals and eliminate the need for traders to visit multiple government offices.
This centralized system will help reduce bureaucratic delays, simplify documentation, and accelerate the process of starting and expanding a business in Delhi.
Beautification of Markets and Promotion of Tourism
In addition to tax reforms, the Delhi government plans to beautify major market areas as part of a broader strategy to promote tourism. While work in iconic markets like Chandni Chowk has already begun, CM Gupta noted that more needs to be done to enhance tourist experiences.
Efforts will focus on upgrading infrastructure, providing modern amenities for visitors, and transforming key markets into vibrant commercial and cultural hubs. These improvements are expected to not only attract more tourists but also boost local businesses.
Traders Welfare Board to Be Set Up
To ensure long-term support and development of the trading community, the government also announced the formation of a Traders Welfare Board. This body will be tasked with safeguarding trader interests, advising on policy matters, and serving as a bridge between the government and business stakeholders.
Conclusion
The upcoming GST amnesty scheme, combined with a progressive industrial policy and trader-focused reforms, marks a significant step toward improving the business environment in Delhi. Traders have welcomed the announcement, expressing hope that these measures will reduce compliance hassles and create more opportunities for growth.
