COVID-19 Update: Odisha Reports 7 New Cases, Total Rises to 45 in Current Wave

New Dehle, June 8, 2025 – Odisha has reported seven new COVID-19 cases, taking the total tally in the ongoing wave to 45, a senior health official confirmed on Sunday. Of the total, 33 cases remain active, while 12 patients have recovered as of Saturday.

In response to the rising cases, the state has ramped up surveillance and containment measures in line with guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Health authorities have been directed to intensify monitoring of influenza-like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) cases across hospitals.

All SARI patients presenting at healthcare facilities are being tested for COVID-19. Positive samples are being sent for whole genome sequencing through the Indian Council of Medical Research’s (ICMR) Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) network to track potential variants.

The state government has also advised individuals exhibiting symptoms of acute respiratory infection to self-monitor and promptly seek medical attention if their condition deteriorates.

With the active case count climbing and the virus continuing to circulate in the community, officials stress the importance of vigilance and timely reporting to contain further spread.
