Petrol pump News: Water Mixed with Petrol at Indian Oil Pump Damages Vehicles, Probe Underway

A shocking case of fuel adulteration has emerged from Greater Noida, where several motorists reported serious issues with their vehicles after refueling at a petrol pump operated by Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL). The incident has triggered public outrage and prompted an official investigation by local authorities.

According to reports, the issue surfaced at a petrol pump located in the Aichhar Pi Sector, where customers began experiencing problems such as engine stalling, difficulty in starting vehicles, and a noticeable drop in mileage shortly after filling fuel. As complaints grew, suspicion of adulterated petrol led to a local-level inquiry, which confirmed that water had mixed with the fuel being dispensed.

The situation quickly escalated as affected consumers gathered at the petrol pump, raising slogans and demanding accountability. Responding to the complaints, teams from the Weights and Measures Department and the District Supply Department reached the spot and initiated a joint investigation. Fuel samples were collected and sent for laboratory testing to determine the extent of contamination.

Preliminary findings suggest that the contamination may have been caused by an accident involving a fuel tanker on the night of March 23. During heavy rainfall, the tanker reportedly collided with a wall within the petrol pump premises, damaging its structure and allowing water to seep inside. Despite this, it is alleged that the petrol pump staff emptied the tanker’s contents into the storage tank without proper checks, leading to the distribution of water-adulterated fuel to customers.

Officials have expressed concern over possible negligence in handling the situation. A notice has been issued to Indian Oil Corporation Limited, seeking a detailed explanation regarding the incident and the apparent lapse in safety protocols.

District In-charge Supply Officer Smriti Gautam confirmed that the matter has been brought to the attention of District Magistrate Medha Rupam. Authorities are currently awaiting the company’s response as well as the laboratory test results. Based on the findings, further action will be taken against those responsible.

Meanwhile, the administration has assured affected consumers that steps are being taken to address their losses. Vehicle owners who suffered damage due to the contaminated fuel are expected to receive compensation, and refunds for the purchased petrol are already being processed.

This incident has raised serious concerns about quality control and safety measures at fuel stations. The administration has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any unusual issues with their vehicles immediately after refueling, so that prompt action can be taken and similar incidents can be prevented in the future.
