Bharat Coking Coal Limited Reports Q1 FY27 Loss as EBITDA Turns Negative Despite Sequential Revenue Growth

New Delhi: Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) reported a weak financial performance for the first quarter of FY2026-27 (Q1 FY27), posting a net loss as profitability came under significant pressure despite a sequential improvement in revenue.

The company reported revenue from operations of ₹3,587.27 crore in Q1 FY27, compared with ₹3,719.59 crore in the corresponding quarter last year, reflecting a 3.56% year-on-year (YoY) decline. However, revenue increased 9.27% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ), indicating an improvement in business activity compared to the previous quarter.

EBITDA Turns Negative

BCCL’s operating performance deteriorated sharply during the quarter. The company posted an EBITDA loss of ₹64.47 crore, compared with a positive EBITDA of ₹191.08 crore in Q1 FY26. On a sequential basis, EBITDA also weakened from a loss of ₹335.26 crore in the previous quarter.

As a result, the EBITDA margin slipped into negative territory at -1.80%, compared with 5.14% in the same quarter last year. The margin, however, improved from -10.21% recorded in the preceding quarter.

Profit Before Tax and Net Profit

Profitability remained under pressure as Profit Before Tax (PBT) stood at a loss of ₹103.07 crore, compared with a profit of ₹247.40 crore in Q1 FY26. Sequentially, the company also moved into losses from a profit of ₹18.94 crore in the previous quarter.

The bottom line reflected the same trend, with Profit After Tax (PAT) reporting a net loss of ₹68.09 crore, against a net profit of ₹176.87 crore in the year-ago quarter. In the previous quarter, the company had posted a profit of ₹27.28 crore.

BCCL’s other income declined to ₹135.97 crore, compared with ₹182.20 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. It also fell sharply on a sequential basis from ₹556.55 crore, reducing support to the company’s overall profitability.
