Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Wednesday emphasized that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is the role model for the modern era, highlighting his exemplary contributions both as a leader and a nation-builder.
Bhagwat made these remarks at the book launch event of ‘Yugandhar Shivarai’, written by the late Sumant Tekade, a noted author on the Maratha warrior king. The event took place in Nagpur, where he underscored Shivaji Maharaj’s enduring legacy.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Leadership and Legacy
Mohan Bhagwat noted that RSS stalwarts like Keshav Hedgewar, Madhavrao Golwalkar, and Balasaheb Deoras had earlier described Lord Hanuman as the ideal role model of the ancient era, while recognizing Shivaji Maharaj as the role model of modern times.
He further stated that Shivaji Maharaj is considered a “Yugpurush” (visionary leader of the era) because he played a crucial role in halting foreign invasions, including those of the Mughals. His governance, military strategy, and dedication to protecting Indian culture and sovereignty make him an enduring icon of inspiration.
The event was attended by historians, scholars, and prominent figures, who echoed Bhagwat’s sentiments about the significance of Shivaji Maharaj’s leadership in contemporary times.
Why Shivaji Maharaj Remains Relevant Today
Shivaji Maharaj’s administrative prowess, military strategies, and commitment to justice continue to be relevant in modern governance and leadership. His vision of a self-reliant and culturally strong nation is seen as a guiding principle in today’s India.
Bhagwat’s remarks reinforce the historical importance of Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy and highlight how his principles can inspire leadership in the present era.
